From: Mary M.
Mileage update for Wednesday, July 30th, 2008

We were rained out at the Parkway again. This is the 4th Wednesday in a row. Bonnie and her granddaughter Melanie meet Tony, Mary and Deborah at the Parkway. When it started to sprinkle we all decided to go to the Mall and Walk. The 5 of us did one lap of the Mall which is a mile. That was a total of 5 miles. After we finished we went to Panera Bread for a little refreshment. We talked about the T-Shirts and the %K Susan G. Komen Walk in October in St. Petersburg. I think we are ready to order T-Shirts. I will send out an e-mail to the distribution list for people to respond with their order.

Wednesday Total = 5 miles

Year-to-Date Total = 1587.95 miles

Mileage update for Saturday, July 12th, 2008

Saturday, July 12th 7:15 AM on the Parkway Trail
Julie -.6 mile (Still Perfect Attendance)
Bonnie P. - 2.2 miles
Bonnie F. - 2.0 miles
Mary M.- 3.1 miles
Pam - 3.1 miles
Marie - 3.1 miles
Bob - 3.1 miles
Gary - 3.1 miles

Saturday Total = 23.4 miles

Year-to-Date Total = 1569.65 miles

Miles to go to hit "2008 miles in 2008" - 438.35 miles

When we arrived at 7:15 AM on Saturday, July 19th, for our walk, Julie had walked her usual .6 miles and had left. She still has perfect attendance. Marie was back from a wonder vacation at the Beach. Pam's training for the 3 day Susan G. Komen Walk for the Cure is going well. She is getting organized for the event that takes place in October. Bonnie Fischer cut her walk short to go to the hospital to see her daughter, who had surgery. Bonnie will be away the next two weeks. She will taking care of grand children will her daughter is recuperating. The following she and AL(husband also known as Conrad) will be flying to Buffalo, New York to see family. Bonnie P. got some great pictures of sandhill cranes. She was the only walker who saw them. The rest of us were so busy talking we missed the wildlife. Pam said that Deborah got back from Las Vegas OK on Wednesday. Pam thought that Deborah would have walked today, but she had her colonosopy yesterday and maybe she was still tired from the procedure. We hope to see Deborah on Wednesday. Bonnie P. was attacked by fire ants at the end of the walk. She had to strip to get rid of the ants that had crawled up inside her pants. Mary, Pam and Marie helped Bonnie P. get her clothes off and get rid of ants. Watch the video on the blog that Tony took. It is pretty cute. Gary seems to think that A-1 sauce is good for ant bites! Everybody laughed and I don't think anyone believes that this home remedy works, except Gary. I did some searching on the Google and only found that you can use a hot jalapeƱo pepper sauce on a fire ant hill to kill them. There was nothing about slathering your body with A-1 Sauce to kill them or to get rid of the itching. I received an e-mail from Bonnie P this afternoon that said that when she got home form the walk she took a hot shower and put cortisone cream on and there was no itching so far.

The new t-shirts are coming along. We are going to have to go with a new vendor in order to keep the costs down. Gary is working on creating the logo to one color and making a small logo for the front. We are also looking at creating removable labels for the fronts of the T-Shirts for each Charity Event we do. They will be printed on the computer and like a stick-on name tag. We are looking at a "Safety Green Color" with black logos. They shirt will be a 50/50 blend of cotton and polyester with a tag and made by anvil. We are working also on Pam's special requirements for moisture wicking ones for the 3-day walk. When we have this pulled together and have exact price, I will put out an e--mail and take orders. I will handle it the same way as I handled the other shirts. You will pay me when you get your shirt.

We hope that group members that are planning to walk or come as a spectator in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure on October 4th, in St. Petersburg, will purchase one of the new shirts, so we will all be wearing the same shirt design. We will be registering to walk as a team. The
Susan G. Komen website is set up to take registrations, but the Team has to be set-up along with a captain chosen, before the members can register. The selection of a captain will need to be discussed when we meet in person. The registration fee for each team member is $30.00, as long as everybody registers by September 23rd. You can register after that but it will cost $35.00. There is no requirement to solicit donation, but they would gladly be accepted by the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Your $30.00 fee will get you an event T-Shirt. They usually have lots of vendors giving out free stuff the day of the race. This year in honor of the 10th anniversary of the Race in St. Petersburg, they are adding a 10k Run/ Walk Race. In addition to the 10k Run/Walk Race, they will have the 5K Run/Walk Race, a 1 mile Fun Run/Walk, a "Proud in the Crowd" Event and the "Sleep In for the Cure". is a $35.00 donation and they send you a pillow case that says you are slept in on October 4th. Once the Team is set up on-line I think members can register for any one of the events.
Here is the website URL for more information -
http://komensuncoast.kintera.org/faf/home/default.asp?ievent=264374

There will be more about the event, after we get a Team Captain. If you are interested in being The Nameless Walking Group's Team Captain for this Event and won't be walking this coming week, just send me an e-mail at truvalo@verizon.net. and you name will go in the hat.

Mileage update for Sunday, July 13th, 2008 on the Parkway Trail

Joan - Round about and back - 2miles

Pam - 2 times to Route 60 and back in the rain - 6.2 miles

No miles were walked on Wednesday, July 16, 2008 - Bonnie F. couldn't make to the mall and the 6:45PM at the Parkway it was raining. The graffiti was gone form the wall.

Total = 8.2 miles
Year-to-Date Total = 1546.25 miles
Miles to go to hit "2008 miles in 2008" - 461.75 miles

From: Pam
Add 6.2 for me on Sunday, my daughter and I walked 2 round trips in the rain. Also, I have to wear the dri-fit shirts when walking long distances so if you are ordering more shirts with the logo I want to order some with a different fabric. If you will not have them a month before the walk I still want to order some let me know what they cost if I supply my own shirts, I will need about 6.
Lastly I am registering the 'Nameless Walking Group' for the Komen walk with one walker, me. (I discussed this with the group the last time I walked and I did not have any objections. I think you were on vacation) I need a better picture for my page. I used the one from the JDRF walk but it is too big so I resized it and uploaded it but it is too blurry. If any of the "group photographers" have a small picture of us that they would not mind me adding to my personal page for the walk please have them send it to me.
Thanks,
Pam
Take a look at my page to see what I mean. http://www.the3day.org/

Mileage update for Saturday, July 12th, 2008

Saturday, July 12th 7:15 AM on the Parkway Trail
Bonnie F. - 3.1 miles
Mary M.- 3.1 miles
Julie -.6 mile (Still Perfect Attendance)
Bob - 3.1 miles
Susan and Rusty - 2.0 miles
Bob's Uncle Ed - 3.1 miles
Tony - 3.1 miles
Bonnie P. - 2 miles

When we arrived at 7:15 AM on Saturday, July 12th for our walk, we were greeted with graffiti on the wall by the second handicap ramp. Tony took pictures that Mary will e-mail to Nancy at the Expressway. The group was really upset about this. The trail from Lumdsen and the Parkway to Lakewood and the Parkway, looked pretty much litter free. AS we turned and went down Lakewood to Brandon Blvd., there was more litter. There has been some improvement in the gully where the storm sewer is. The wooden chair is gone, but there is is still quite a bit of paper litter in that area that definitely has been there more than a week. There was also litter that looked like it fresh and just thrown out of cars. Bonnie P., Susan and Rusty, Susan's dog walked to the Round about and back. Julie had already done her .6 miles by the time the Weight Watcher group arrived. Marie is on vacation and this was the first time she had not walked on Saturday since we started the club. Julie still has perfect attendance. Bob's Uncle Ed joined us. He is a Weight Watcher Leader in New Jersey where he lives. He is here in Florida on a summer vacation visiting family. Speaking of vacations, Susan is going to Ohio next week to see her parents. Pam was off to Orlando for a practice walk for her three day Susan G. Komen Cure Breast Cancer Walk. Deborah was in Las Vegas attending memorial services for her sister-in-law. Gary was absent. He has been working really hard getting his villa ready to sell. He did send the writeup about the club. Gary has also designed a small left front logo for the new T-Shirts that we want before we walk in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in St. Petersburg in October. I am contacting the Image Depot tomorrow to see about these new T-Shirts to get an idea what can be made and the cost.

Map My Run-Great Find

I found this site and thought you all might enjoy it. I've homed in on Brandon and found over 30 pre-mapped routes. Pam, this may be good for you since the routes are all fairly close and vary in distance from a few miles up through 20 miles.

We walked 3 loops of the mall. It was somewhat crowded, so we had a lot of bobbing and weaving to do to get around the teenagers, Mother's with strollers and the senior citizens with their electric carts. It took us a little over an hour. Tony forgot the camera, so there were no pictures.

Tony - 2.0 miles

We started walking promptly at 6:45 PM. There were some dark clouds, but the sun was shining. BY the time we crossed Pauls Ave. the weather was stating to change. By the time we got th the wind was picking up and there were black clouds to the South and some thunder. We decide we should all start back, since we had seen some lightening in the distance. We all got back to our cars before the rain started. Bob and Luis were working in manatee County today, so they would not have gotten back in time to walk. No one has heard from Gary. Deborah is back to Las Vegas tomorrow.
We were sorry to hear that her sister-in-law passed away. Deborah will be back next Wednesday, but doesn't know if she will walk. Kathie is taking advantage of here summer vacation. Kathie, Josh and the rest of the family just got back from a week in the mountains in Tennessee. They loved the cooler weather. Tony and I got back last night from the Family Reunion in Upstate New York. They too enjoyed the cooler weather.

gain is was a clear day which made for hot and humid walk by the end. We started out with Bob, Marie, Julie (who really got her walk in prior to our arrival), Deborah, Susan and me. Julie did her usual to the first street, I meandered to Main St. and back, and Bob, Deborah, Marie and Susan did the full trek to 60 and back. On my way back I met up with Bonnie F. and her friend, Janet, and their dogs. The both were going as far as Main St. and back. Can we get credit for the dogs too?????

Wednesday, July 2nd on the Parkway Trail
Bonnie P. - 0 miles
From: Bonnie P.
I was the only one who showed up tonight. As evidenced by the attached pictures, all of you were much smarter than I was. Believe it or not, there were some who were still walking and I thought about it until I saw the first lightening bolt, then I got some smarts.

The pictures were taken between 6:32 and 6:46. I left at 6:50.
