Connetquot State Park LI, NY

This morning Maryann and I jumped out of bed so we could head over to the Conntquot State Park on Long Island and go for a nice hike.  The Park boasts about 20 miles of hiking trails and is a favorite destination for hundreds of cross country runners.  You need to simply see the park from inside the grounds to understand why runners love this place.

We have known about this park, which serves as a massive wildlife preserve and water conservation area, since we were kids ( a very long time ago).  Oddly enough neither of us had ever ventured over in that direction.  So we decided it was about time.  The park did not disappoint.

And One More Thing!

Two of my favorite people on the entire planet, Mary and Tony.

Well, this picture will always and forever have a special place in my heart.  Flatwoods Park, where I have put more than 500 miles on my bicycle (Giant OCR1), is definitely one of my top 3 activity parks in the US.  Central Park in NYC is number 1, Massapequa Park in Nassau County NY is Number 2 and Flatwoods is number 3.

When I saw those pictures of Flatwoods and all those Weight Watchers out there pounding the pavement I so much wanted to be a part of it all.

It looks like you all had a really good and healthy experience on your 5K there at Flatwoods.

Enjoy and do something everyday that is a little bit naughty and a little bit scary....but just a little bit!

Until the next time.........

You've Got Mail!

I opened my e-mail today and saw this picture.  It made my day and maybe even the weekend for me.  Mary and Tony you are very special people in so many ways.  Thank you for sharing these pictures and for being a part of my life for so many years now.

Memories

Tony and Mary sent out some pictures from events of the recent few weeks.  The pictures of the wood stork and the osprey [not shown here] just took my breath away.  I'm going through a very nostalgic time for the past several weeks and these pictures just opened the floodgates for remembering good times with great friends. Thank you Mary and Tony for making these pictures available to us.

Please keep the pictures coming and I hope you all start journaling in this Blog again.  Whenever I look through here I always get such a warm feeling.

Let's get it going again.  What do you think?

A New Hat

I received in the mail several weeks ago a new hat.  Not just any hat mind you but a hat with the Nameless Walking Group logo emblazoned on the front.

I was immediately uplifted.  I'm not sure what the story behind the hat is, but I would certainly love to know how this specialty item for the Nameless Walking Group came about.  I've added it proudly to my collection which also includes my "Take A Hike" hat that Tony and Mary gave me a while back.

Both will get plenty of wear.  This I can guarantee!  Thank you Mary and thank you Tony....you are simply the very best!

Little Cow Harbor 4 Mile Run

Well it is cloudy, 45 degrees with winds gusting out of the South to about 20 MPH and 9:00 AM. Welcome to a typical late winter Long Island morning and the day of the Little Cow Harbor Run for Hope.

Maryann and I are participating in the Little Cow Harbor Run for Hope....only we are walking. Yes, we will walk for Hope. I think Hope will still be well served with a walk.

It has been a while since we have signed up and completed one of these events so I'm feeling pretty good about it. The organizers have done an incredible job and surrounding area is stuningly beautiful.

The adjectives are well earned in both cases. The organizers deserve a hearty round of applause. We love a well organized event.

We finished in just over an hour averaging out to about 15 minutes per mile which is about average, but not bad considereing I had surgery only last Thursday. The miracles of modern medicine! My next significant event is not until June but I'll be training for that and plan to post my progress out here for posterity

It's Been A Long While

Well it certainly has been a while since I've posted anything on this Blog.  I was quite pleased to see that it is still getting the occassional update and viewer.

I miss seeing you all very much and as I dealt with snow, ice and freezing rain throughout December and January it made me take pause and recollect just what a special place Florida is and how it is made all the more so because I was able to meet and make friends with all you good people.  Tony, Mary, Deborah, Bonnie and Bonnie, Cindy, my neighbor and dear friend Bob.  Things don't really get much better.

I don't know when I'll be back in Florida again.  As these things tend to go I get busy, another month passes and then a quarter and then a year.  My wife lives down in Sun City Center and loves it. Bob I still can't thank you enough for helping us move her to Sun City.  She and I get together every now and then, but I haven't even had much time to spend with her except at Christmas when we went to Sante Fe, New Mexico. What an adventure that trip turned out to be!

Well, as you can see I've spruced up the site some and given it a face lift.  Let me know what you think if you happen to get out to the site.  I put some click links to facebook and twitter up so if you get the urge, have at it.  I registered for a long bicycle tour out to Montauk Point from Babylon, Long Island.  I have a lot of work to do before I have any chance of success, but what the heck...Right!

Be well.  Until the next time
