Mileage Update
Mileage update as of Sunday, August 31st, 2008
Saturday, August 30th, morning on the Parkway Trail
Tony - 3.1 miles
Susan - 3.1 miles
Bob - 3.1 miles
Total = 16.1 miles
Year-to-Date Total = 1731.45 miles
Miles to go to hit "2008 miles in 2008" - 276.55 miles
It was a small crowd walking on Saturday, but we did get an additional 16.1 miles in for our total. We are less than 300 miles away from our goal and we have 122 days let to get to "2008 Miles in 2008". Marie was unable to join us on Saturday morning because her Mom was has been feeling under the weather. We are praying for a speedy recovery for Marie's Mom.
Saying thank you is such a wonderful feeling
I am up here in New York and trying to sort everything out before I start my new job on Tuesday. These last few months have been quite an adventure for me. The experience allowed me to find out a lot about myself and my life, not the least of which were the lessons I learned about the value of the friendships I have.
Of course there are many mixed feelings and emotions here given the nature of the solution and the situation that has subsequently been created. Given my age and other challenges that I had to face head on under the circumstances I am thrilled to have found a new job. I will be challenged and also given the opportunity to make a real contribution to something meaningful. This is the sweet side. On the other hand I have to be separated from my family and say farewell to my friends. This is extremely difficult for me.
I am very lucky to have a wife of 36 years whom I am still madly in love with and who can still make my day just with her smile. I miss her very much already. I also miss my daughter and I'm probably driving here crazy by calling the house 12 times a day. I've learned a great deal from both these women over the years. Not being there with them in Florida is very very tough for me as you might imagine.
What I also learned though is how important my friends in Florida have become to me and how much I miss them already. Of particular note are the friends I have made through the Nameless Walking Group. It all started out as a noble pursuit in the interest of health maintenance, but this group turned into something much more than that for me. I will remember for the rest of my life the Saturday and Wednesday walks, the discussions about various topics...the kids, the grandkids, photography, jobs, spouses, politics or anything that suited the moment. Breakfast.
I thank you all for these wonderful experiences and memories. Mary and Tony, Keith and Val, Bonnie and Bonnie, Deborah, Marie, Julie, Pam, Bob, Cindy and family, Christine, and everyone else I had the pleasure of walking with....THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU. Special Thanks to Bob O'Donnell. Bob, I hope we will always maintain our friendship and I can't thank you enough for all the things that you have introduced me to. Don't forget Gasparilla in '09. Mary and Tony...you are magic! Nobody could ever ask for anymore out of a friendship than I have experienced from ours!
As soon as I'm settled down here I will resume my walking. I don't think that my miles can count toward the club total, but know they are being clocked in the spirit of this thing we have started. I hope at least to be there in spirit with all of you when the 2008 mile goal is reached.
For all those who took me to breakfast and gave me such a nice sendoff....I can only say thank you once again. I carry my digital picture frame on my key chain.
Thanks for everything and it is my hope that everyone who has experienced the Nameless Walking Group will continue to put a priority on their health maintenance and will include walking as a mainstay for that pursuit!
Later.....

Good Evening Gary and Friends,
I could not let the day go by without adding my farewell to Gary. I am sorry that my Mom and I could not make it today, but as you all know, she has not been feeling well, and I have been keeping her close to home for recovery.
Gary, a part of me is not surprised that you would be moving to NY to a town that has SUCCESS in it. I have watched you handle your personal challenges with a zest and a very determined face, ya know, the one with the eye brows that are centered close, which adds a wrinkle in your forehead. Life sure has given you a run for your wrinkles but it was your determination, your love for your family, and your spirit to feel success that has brought you to this stage of your life. So now you are off to NY. A new chapter in your life.
It's your story Gary, it's your life and you are the writer. Problem is, we write it as we go along and we never know how it is going to end. So, here's my advice, keep your beginning close to your heart, and forget knowing or understanding your final chapter. Just take your time, sit back. and enjoy the "meat & potato's" of your book. All the days of your life and the new days ahead. Fill your life with a ton of success and a ton of love and you will never worry or be concerned about your ending. Life has a way of giving chances to have the best ending ever but it is how we live the middle of our book, the middle of our life, that puts us in the writer seat. Write your chapters with love, with success, and with the thrill to enjoy each day of your next chapter. You are a GOOD PERSON Gary, you have added chapters in so many other's book, and you will be remembered.
Stay Happy, healthy, and safe for life.
God Bless you Friend,
Cindy

Bonnie F. was the only person that walked on Wednesday afternoon, since I did not check my e-mail until after I should have arrived at the Mall. Bonnie F. walked two loops, before she decided to give up on me arriving. We now have each other's cell phone numbers. To make up for not walking yesterday, Bonnie F. and I went to the mall this morning and walked three loops. After that Bonnie F. headed out and I went shopping for a couple of hours. Found some good bargains at J C Penney's.
On Wednesday evening, Tony and I went at the Mall at 6:30 PM. Just after we arrived there was a 10 minute or so down pour. We waited at the Food Court and pretty soon Bonnie P. arrived. We waited until 7:00 PM to see if anybody else was coming. We did a lap and a half and then went to Panera Bread for coffee. We left the mall around 8:30 PM.
Tony and I will be in Georgia this weekend. The Group will be meeting as usual at the Brandon Parkway Trail at 7:15 AM. This rainy weather should be all gone by then. We will be back on late on Monday, August 18th.
The new T-Shirts have been ordered. We should have them by Saturday, August 30th.
Congratulations to Gary on getting a new Job! He will be working in New York. It was under his leadership that we became The Nameless Walking Group of Brandon, Florida. We will truly miss him. Hopefully, when he comes home to Florida he will be able to walk with us.

The purpose of this note is twofold
1) Make my friends and colleagues aware of my job and industry change
2) For all those who provided me guidance, support and empathy as I embarked and made my journey through this challenge, my family and I thank you.
Pam will be starting her intensive training for the 3-Day Susan G. Komen Walk for The Cure soon, so she will not be able to join us on Saturday mornings until after the walk is over in November. Deborah did her usual Sunday walk on the Parkway Trail. Mary meet Bonnie F. who was back form vacation at the Brandon Mall at 2:00 PM. They walked 2 laps because they needed to leave a little early. At 6:45 PM sharp, Mary, Deborah, Bob and Tony started their mall walk. They completed 3 laps. Deborah lost her insulated water bottle bag along the way. Mary and Deborah retraced their steps and found it laying on a counter in one of the kiosks. We meet back up with Bob and Tony. After we went to Panera Bread and had coffee. While we were in line waiting to order, Bonnie P. came in. She had just come from the Airport after dropping her grand daughter off to go home to New Hampshire. Gary missed walking this evening . It was a small group walking Saturday Morning. Mary and Gary took off at a very brisk pace and missed the alligator siting in the first pond by the rest of the group. Mary and Gary waited for the rest of the group at Route 60. When they arrive Tony took the usual pictures and the females lead the way back with the three boys a little behind. After we finished Deborah, Mary and Tony went to Golden Coral for breakfast. We figured Bonnie P. and Melanie slept in.
The Wednesday evening 6:45 PM walk has been moved to the Brandon Mall until the evening rain showers season is over. We will meet just inside the Food Court Entrance by the pay phones.
The deadline for ordering new gold T-Shirts is Tuesday night August 5th. I will be placing the order on Wednesday. It will be a maximum of 10 days to get the shirts.
